Symptoms
Section titled “Symptoms”macOS says the application cannot be opened, warns about its source, or blocks an installer or application bundle.
Likely causes
Section titled “Likely causes”The artifact may be incomplete, modified after download, signed or notarized differently than expected, or blocked by a device-management policy. The repository configuration does not verify the signing or notarization state of every artifact.
Fast checks
Section titled “Fast checks”Confirm the artifact came from the approved release channel, compare its name and version with the release record, and preserve the full macOS message.
Resolution
Section titled “Resolution”Ask the release owner or your device administrator to validate the exact artifact and approved installation path. Do not disable macOS protections globally or run destructive bypass commands as a normal troubleshooting step.
Data-loss warning
Section titled “Data-loss warning”Do not delete application data to address an installation block. That does not validate or repair the artifact.
Information to collect for support
Section titled “Information to collect for support”Provide the artifact name, version, download source, macOS version, device architecture, full message, and whether the application was previously installed.
